The Bedford Stuyvesant CPI has connected with several diverse support services within the community, including the New York City Administration for Children’s Services, grassroots and faith-based organizations, and community representatives. Through these ongoing partnerships, a rich wealth of resources has been created to help support the Bedford-Stuyvesant community.
Bedford Stuyvesant CPI connects the community to resources in order to:
• Positively impact the lives of children;
• Effect meaningful changes in the way child welfare services are delivered in our community;
• Recommend initiatives that will affect public policy.
Our Goals:
• Improved Service Integration. Bedford Stuyvesant CPI will promote innovative approaches to a coordinated service delivery system that will bridge the gap between Head Start, child care, and community-based preventive services
• Application of strength based, family-focused, and solution based approaches to family case conferencing, case management and interventions by service providers. Bedford Stuyvesant CPI will participate in family conferences to contribute to decision-making about the needs, services and safety plans appropriate to particular families.
• Strengthening vulnerable biological, adoptive or foster families to better care for children and recruit new foster families. Bedford Stuyvesant CPI will support existing foster and adoptive or foster families to better care for children while working to recruit new foster families.
• Expediting family re-unification of children in foster care to the greatest extent possible through improved and increased family visitation. Bedford Stuyvesant CPI will facilitate visits between parents, children and siblings in foster care through “visit host” initiatives.
• Increased community awareness/development, communication and outreach via Social Marketing. Bedford Stuyvesant CPI workgroup will create a brand that will increase community awareness. We plan to communicate with the public about CPI activities and issues related to child welfare by using public promotion, print and electronic marketing tools and resources. This committee will also recruit new members that are not currently engaged in the CPI process.
