The Staten Island Mentoring Organization “Lend a Big Hand to a Small One” in collaboration with Staten Island families;  traveled together to the Presidential Inauguration for the 44th President Barack H. Obama.

The bus was loaded with grandmothers, grandfathers, mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, grandchildren and youth looking to be part of the change.  The group arrived in Washington DC to be greeted by many Americans and other country visitors at the RFK stadium. The experience was a lifetime memorabilia to fellowship in the Nations Capital. The bus was filled with many tears, laughter, smiles. There was a spirit only hearts connected could fill and know they made it to the mountain top together.  Everyone you passed, walked by, smiled at, stood next to, and joined hands with, had hearts that sang “Families, There Is a Healing For Us ALL”.

Thanks to Staten Island community residents, partners and everyone who supported this effort and made it a wonderful historical moment in time for all Staten Islanders.  The organization is preparing a documentary that was filmed. The future plan is to host a documentary forum and allow many to show their memories to family, friends and all in attendance.
