School Safety Hearing

November 10, 2009
On Tuesday, November 10th @ 1pm, there will be a hearing on Int. 816-A the School Safety Act which will require the DOE and the NYPD to report quarterly data on the number of students subjected to disciplinary procedures or police interactions. As well as allowing students of public schools to be able to file official complaints against safety agents with the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) for inappropriate conduct.

The hearing begins at 1:00 but the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) does not anticipate advocates or parents being able to testify earlier than 3:00.

If parents or advocates are interested in speaking to the press they should attend our press conference on the steps of city hall beginning at noon.

Please let me know if you are interested in attending this event with us.  Several advocates from throughout the city will be in attendance with the NAACP of Staten Island.  We will be catching the ferry at 11:00am to attend the press conference with the NYCLU so please join us.  Or, just show up to City Hall!
