1. Attendance at the April 12 Rally for Preventive Services at City Hall, co-sponsored by CACF, CCC, COFCCA, and others. Special thanks to all agencies who attended the rally!
2. Meetings with Council Members Brad Lander, Margaret Chin, Daniel Dromm, and Leroy Comrie, all of whom have Asian-serving preventive agencies in their districts. Special thanks to Arab American Family Support Center, Chinatown YMCA, and Child Center of NY for attending these meetings and emphasizing the need for preventive services in our communities and the importance of these services for immigrant families and children!
3. Meetings with staff in the offices of Council Members Peter Vallone and Thomas White, both of whom have Asian-serving preventive agencies in their districts. Special thanks to Child Center of NY and CIANA for attending these meetings and sharing their experiences with immigrant children and families in need!
4. Meeting with Meghan Lynch (Chief of Staff to Council Member Annabel Palma, Chair of the General Welfare Committee) and Migna Taveras (Legislative Policy Analyst for the General Welfare Committee). Many of you took time out of your busy days to share with Council Member Palma’s staff the devastating impact that would result from eliminating 3,000 preventive services slots. Special thanks to Arab American Family Support Center, CIANA, Child Center of NY, Chinatown YMCA, Chinese American Planning Council, Graham-Windham, Lower East Side Community Partnership Initiative, Lower East Side Family Union, and University Settlement for attending! (I sincerely apologize if I missed any agency that attended.)
5. Participation in legislative meetings, the budget briefing, and the press conference for the 12% and Growing Coalition’s Asian Pacific American Advocacy Day. Special thanks to all of you who attended that day and demonstrated your support for essential human services programs, including preventive services!
I know some of you also joined CACF and other organizations in many other advocacy activities, including the June 8 Rally for Preventive Services (sponsored by Public Advocate De Blasio and Council Member Palma) and handing out advocacy materials to Council Members on the steps of City Hall over the past few weeks. As you can see, your efforts paid off!
CACF will continue to keep you updated on ways that you can be involved. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 212-809-4675, ext. 109 or (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
