Community Partnership Initiative

Help Distribute 2010 Tax Season Information

February 19, 2010
The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) is once again leading the nation’s largest Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) campaign bringing together governmental agencies, not for profits, community organizations and corporations to spread the word about this important benefit for low-income New Yorkers and direct them to free tax preparation services. The campaign is also focused on raising awareness of the New York City Child Care Tax Credit. Your help in distributing tax season materials is of vital importance each year as we ensure that eligible New Yorkers receive their credits and access free tax preparation services.

To give you a sense of the scope of the 2009 campaign, we are happy to report that this year our Coalition directly helped more than 80,000 low-income New Yorkers file their tax returns with nearly 30,000 EITC returns.  This means about $122 million in total refunds, and $56 million in EITC refunds.

Please see the attached 2010 literature request form for more details on how to order materials free of charge.

We very much hope that you will join us in this exciting endeavor.
