The Lower East Side CPP has been working very closely with the Children's Museum of the Arts. They have a art visiting specialist who can develop art actitivities that parents can do together with their children to promote bonding. Their focus is to assist with the re-unification process for chidren in foster care. This program is entirely free because they have received a grant for this. Their space is available Wednesdays and Thursday afternoons other times by appointment. I have attached a copy of the brochure and referral form for this progam.
On the first Thursday of the month from 4 to 6:30, Dina Gandey, who used to work for a foster care agency that no longer exists, conducts a cookie decorating class for families; however, it will be on the 11th for this month. I have attached a flyer for the program. They must RSVP with me, if they are interested in attending this class becaus there is limited space for every class.
We are also working very closely with University Settlement’s Houston Street Center, which has a Family Swim program and low-cost swimming lessons for children as young as 4. The CPP can cover the cost for children in foster care. Regular price is $40 for eight lessons. We are also looking at some of the programs offered by the Chinatown YMCA, which is also located in the Houston Street Center, such as their indoor playground for toddlers and many of their low-cost lessons for children.
Also, this Satruday, Novembmer 6 from 10am to 2pm, E. 7th Stree Baptist Church/Grafitti Community Ministries will be hosting a community day, which I think I already sent you a copy of the flyer. Grafittie Ministries is located on E. 7th Street between Avenues B and C.
